Today, we are delighted to announce the release of a new set of film effects for photo and video. Located in the newly updated FX tab, the new Distressed category gives creators authentic new ways to add gritty and nostalgic film looks such as expired, broken, burned, and ripped to their work.

Embrace the look of damaged film -h3
From gritty artifacts to a heavenly glow, the new Distressed category in the FX tab is dedicated to all the unique looks that can occur when film is damaged. These effects range from the interesting ways that expired film degrades, to the happy accidents that can take place while processing the film in the darkroom. Try combining the effects with a faded color film look like AV8 or FS16 and experiment with Saturation for a seamless blend.
Add a golden hour glow with Light -h3
The new Light category contains lens flares and light leaks. Lens flare occurs when light scatters within a camera lens when it is pointed at a bright light source such as the sun. This effect can create a beautiful mood. For realistic results, try taking a photo with the camera pointed at a light source and then add a flare effect. Light leaks occur naturally when light “leaks” onto film unintentionally either at capture or during development. These effects are all built from real film scans, which usually take on a warm color and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Combine with a Film X filter like AV8 and the Grain tool for realistic results. The new Texture category contains dust, grain, and scratches, all built from scans of real film. Because of how much a small piece of film is blown up to create an image, even the tiniest imperfections turn into visible artifacts that contribute to the character of film when scanned. Combine with the FS16 filter for a realistic result.
